It has been a busy holiday season and it promises to keep on being busy after the new year.  That's great!  I've finished up my Christmas orders and thought I'd catch everyone up on the going-on's of Cake.  The open houses in Greenville, DE went wonderfully.  Check out the pictures from all the open houses on the "Photographs" page.  The Friday date was a bit of a bust as it started snowing when the open house began and that kept people away.  But Saturday was a beautiful day and a lot of people came out to see me.  It was nice meeting new people and getting to hear their opinions on the cakes, pies and cookies that I had out to sample.  Each open house I have makes me want to schedule more.  If you would like to host an open house/dessert tasting in your home, contact me at (302) 632-3208 or at Heather.Walls@thecakebusiness.net. 

I've also been keeping busy with some classes on cake decorating.  It's a great opportunity to learn new skills, meet other people who share my interest in baking and to network.  It's been fun and very educational.

My first open house on Saturday, November 24th was a success.  A very, very special thank you to my Aunt Mary who graciously hosted it and to my friend Nichole, who came early and set up the table so beautifully.  I truly could not have done this - at least not so smoothly and elegantly - without them.  Many heartfelt thanks to all those who attended.  There was a nice turn out and I am truly blessed to have so much support from my family and friends. 

I have also set up some additional open house dates to be held in the Greenville, Delaware area.  That information will be forthcoming very soon - check back!

I'm very excited!  I have set the date for the first ever Open House for Cake - November 24, 2007.  I'm really looking forward to being able to share some samples of my cakes and desserts with those who come out.  I'll be accepting orders for the holidays and I plan on having some desserts on hand for sale.  Everyone is invited - tell a friend!

This is it.  The beginning.  I've ordered the business cards and I'm creating the website.  I'm a little nervous and a lot excited.  I've been baking for years. . . I started with cookies, then expanded my repertoire to desserts for special occasions.  When my children were born, I dipped my toe in the deep end - creative cakes.  With creative cakes, the possibilities are endless.  Now I let my children and niece and nephew tell me what cake they'd like for their birthdays and I dive right in.  Sometimes I don't know what the end result will be; I let the cake decide.  Other times, the cake has to be precise and I have a plan from the beginning.  Either way, the journey is always fun.  I hope I can bring a little of the joy I get creating desserts to those who order from Cake.
